    Sally’s story

From a proud wife and mom relying on her husband for simple everyday tasks

Sally (72 years) used to feel like the matriarch of her household. She loved feeling in control, and being responsible for managing the household chores for her family. But since being diagnosed with lymphedema, her husband, Edd, now does all of the daily household tasks (gardening, cooking, even making the coffee in the morning). Sally feels immobilized by her gauntlet, but if she takes it off for even 15 minutes, the swelling quickly returns.

For Sally, what is most important is feeling confident everyday – finding some independence, getting back to her daily routine, and regaining confidence in a treatment that is fitted for her. At BSN Medical, we make it easy for patients to fit therapy into their day-to-day routines.

    • Garments with special Functional Zones in high mobility areas (such as the knee and elbow) help improve comfort and overall compliance.
    • Often Special SoftFit technology prevents garments from slipping, which reduces the overall therapeutic benefit and can interrupt daily activities

“I always have to take it off (gauntlet) when I’m working with the green beans and corn in the kitchen… it gets tight and starts hurting here real bad (pointing to her inner elbow)...Then my arm swells more… but I can’t do this with it on”.

    Jackie’s story

“Owning” her lymphedema in her own way

Jackie, a 59 year old real estate agent, refuses to let her lymphedema get in the way of the activities she loves. Before she was diagnosed, she was a fly-fishing instructor. Even though she is no longer teaching, this is still one of her favorite activities. Jackie has tried out many garments that she refused to accept as “good enough”. She remembers one of her first garments that was just too tight: it caused painful indents and skin irritation on her wrist and upper arm. She also found it nearly impossible to put on by herself. Jackie is always looking for the best therapy solutions for her.

“It just didn’t work… I couldn’t get it on and one time I even gave myself a black eye when trying to put it on. But then when I did have it on it was so painful. I tried it for a couple of days and threw it out as I thought, life is too short!…You have to own it (lymphedema) and find out yourself what’s working”
